My Podcast Episode Is Finally Out!!
It's on the local music of Singapore
Hey guys! Given the number of posts I’ve already sent out about the podcast production process, you might wanna hear the final product. I’ve got two episodes ready--one was published today! The next one will be out on the 16th of August! It’s on both Spotify and Apple Podcast!
This episode is on the local sound of Singapore. You see, there are distinct, recognisable sounds and elements in the music that different countries produce. But Singapore doesn’t have one. With our mixed cultural identity, a non-homogenous racial and religious composition, we don’t quite have a distinct, recognisable sound.
For the podcast, I’ve talked to 5 local artists — a film composer, Alex Oh and 4 artists.
Alex Oh is my former internship boss, with whom I worked on various scores and sound design for many commercial short film projects.
One of the artists, Evanturetime (Evan Low) co-wrote the national day theme song for Singapore last year. He also produces for various local artists here in Singapore.
Falling feathers, or JJ Ong, was an artist signed with Warner Music, but later became a music and artist marketer and educator teaching music business.
Charlie Lim and Gentle Bones are local singer-songwriters who collaborated with many local artists.
Singapore has been pushing this S-pop thing for a while now, with singing competitions with the same name. So, will S-pop ever become a thing?
Hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think — I’d love to hear feedback from an international audience, especially one who’s not from Singapore!
